This post is just for fun... However, as you will see, I take my gnomes very seriously...

I've never really fixated on anything in the world of cake.

When I first started out, I was drawn to sugar flowers — not because I wanted to specialise in them, but because I was fascinated by how they were made. I'm just a very curious person by nature. I always want to understand how things work or how they’re put together.

I’ve made loads of food-themed cakes, but I think that’s pretty normal. Let’s face it — food is popular, so people often request that kind of design. But this gnome obsession? It’s getting out of hand. I get so excited when someone asks for one, and I have an ever-growing list of gnome-related design ideas.

I’m genuinely not going to be happy until I’ve built an entire gnome army!

So, if there are any other gnome-fiends out there, this post is for you.

So, this is how it went...

A little while back, I was asked to make a garden-themed gnome cake — and that’s where it all started.

I called him Erik. He ended up rather large.

When I’d finished making him, I thought he looked a little lonely. So I made him some tiny friends, attached them to bases — and used them for cupcake toppers.

This is still one of the cakes I’ve most enjoyed making.

A Very Gnome-y Christmas

I thought that would be the end of it. But when the festive season rolled around... many of my family and friends were asking for gnome toppers for their Christmas cakes. Here’s a couple of them:

I also made a festive baking-themed gnome cake, with these little guys as the stars of the show:

And finally, this little guy graced my own blue, (and very) glittery, "Night Before Christmas" cake. So, all in all, it was a very gnomey Christmas.

Go Large or Go Gnome:

A little while later, I was asked to remake the cupcake garden gnomes — only much larger this time. I mean, was I going to say no?

The Gnome Express 🚂

I can’t blame anyone else for this one. The design for this train cake had been in my head for ages, so I was very happy when I finally got the time to make it.

Did I have to add the gnomes? Yes. Of course I did.

Still Not Done…

I’d like to say this obsession has run its course — but that would be a lie.

Do you think I'm beyond help?

If you’ve got a favourite from this post, let me know in the comments… or send some gnome-themed suggestions my way (to add to my already massive list).

You’ll only be encouraging me... and I’m totally okay with that.
